Project Synopsis

🌱 Reviving Nature, Restoring Hope 🌱

Since 2020, CARE Bangladesh’s Natural Resource Management (NRM) initiative in Cox’s Bazar—funded and renewed annually by WFP—is transforming fragile camp landscapes into resilient, greener spaces. Through reforestation, slope stabilization, flood control, and community-led infrastructure improvements under a cash-for-work approach, the project engages 1,650 participants are engaged every month under the Cash-for-Work (CfW) modality, promoting climate adaptation, disaster preparedness, and environmental sustainability for both refugees and host communities.

By integrating gender inclusion, youth engagement, and environmental protection, and collaborating with WFP, RRRC, and local authorities, CARE is building safer, more resilient camps while fostering shared stewardship of natural resources in one of Bangladesh’s most climate-vulnerable regions.

A Story of Inclusion

After a 2023 accident left 19-year-old Abul Bashar from Camp 11 permanently disabled, his family struggled to meet basic needs. In 2025, CARE Bangladesh enrolled him in Cash-for-Work activities under the Natural Resource Management project, assigning tasks suited to his abilities. Over cycles, he earned BDT 350/day, repaired his shelter, bought medicines, and supported his family’s treatment. “For the first time since my accident, I felt seen, not as a burden,” Abul shared. His success now informs disability-inclusive approaches for other camps, proving that meaningful work is possible for all.
