CARE Bangladesh team members are on the ground, standing with the affected families after a devastating fire broke out in the Rohingya camps during the early hours of 20 January 2026 in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar. There have been no reports of any casualties, however, the fire has affected more than two thousand people, damaged hundreds of shelters and critically important community infrastructure, including water, sanitation, and hygiene structures. CARE Bangladesh immediately mobilized staff, trained volunteers, and hundreds of program participants to support the affected families by clearing debris, restoring access paths, building temporary shelters, and offering psychosocial support to women and adolescent girls.
We are also working closely with sector partners and camp authorities to ensure that the families receive essential services, shelter support, and protection as recovery begins. Kaiser Rejve, Head of Programs for Cox’s Bazar, CARE Bangladesh, said, “CARE Bangladesh will continue to work collaboratively with government authorities, sector partners, and the Rohingya community to support families affected by this fire. Beyond the immediate response, we are committed to strengthening prevention efforts.”
